Thirty years ago, Mixte was born—one of the first French co-ed fashion magazines to rethink gender norms, shaking up the codes of magazine publishing in the process. Today is therefore an opportunity to remind ourselves that throughout its thirty years of existence (including fifteen years of independence), Mixte has always been, through encounters and collaborations, a playground for creative and editorial freedom. Its sole guiding principle has been to reflect its era by telling the story of fashion and the world through powerful imagery and socially engaged topics.
Titled “We are Mixte / We are 30,” this anniversary issue is designed first and foremost as a tribute to and an extension of this singular identity. Above all, it is a love letter to fashion and creation in their most noble contemporary forms. Thus, alongside our major fashion editorials—including those by photographers Léa Wormsbach, Julius Bohlin, and Nicola Pagano, which illustrate the importance of celebrating (oneself) in a community—you can dive into the thirty-year history that shaped Mixte, as well as a series of thirty testimonials shared by thirty personalities who crossed our path. From there, you can explore our in-depth interviews with designers Meryll Rogge (Marni), Emeric Tchatchoua (3.Paradis), and Chitose Abe (Sacai), our feature on emerging talent dedicated here to six independent designers currently entering their thirties, not to mention our exclusive joint interviews featuring Lucien Pagès with Loïc Prigent, and Walter Van Beirendonck with Craig Green, who each share their vision of the industry in their own way.
Finally, this issue would not be complete without several pages dedicated to our societal features—such as our forward-looking analysis on the future of fashion or our investigation into the lack of space and recognition granted to female fashion designers—as well as our editorials dedicated to the talents shaping contemporary culture, such as choreographer Benjamin Millepied, singer Nilusi, and actors Julien de Saint Jean and Daphné Patakia.
All of this makes this exceptional issue you hold in your hands the embodiment of an avant-garde spirit always looking toward the future, and tangible proof that in the years to come, creative freedom will have everything it needs to triumph.
