Les Others - Fictions

How does fiction shape our relationship with nature? For author Nancy Huston, humans are a "storytelling species": telling stories is how we inhabit the world. We don't just live, we interpret and share our experiences, creating narratives that structure our lives.

Nature is no exception: it is never seen neutrally. Over time it has been imagined, idealised or feared in different ways. It isn't the landscapes that change, but the way we look at them. So how do these stories take shape, and how far can they take us? Can they re-enchant our mountains, our forests and our relationship with the living world? 224 pages of answers in this new print issue.
